About

A studio built to stay small.

Meridian is a two-partner design practice. We work with founders and marketing leaders who have outgrown their first answer to the question of what they are — and who would rather resolve that properly than decorate around it.

Why the studio exists

We built the studio we kept wishing we worked at.

Between us we spent twenty-six years inside agencies of every size. The pattern was always the same: the sharpest version of an idea existed early, in a room with three people in it, and then spent six weeks being softened by everyone who had to sign it off.

What arrived at the end was defensible, expensive, and no longer worth defending. Not wrong, exactly — just carefully emptied of the thing that made it worth doing.

Meridian is the correction. What we changed is not the philosophy; every studio says it believes in focus. We changed the structure. The practice is deliberately small, and it is built so that nothing has to survive a committee on its way out the door.

We would rather do six things a year that we would put our names on than twenty we would explain away.

The partners

The two of us.

One of us runs the argument and one of us draws it. In practice the line between those is far less tidy than it sounds, which is most of the reason there are only two.

Partner — Strategy

Elena runs the argument. Eleven years in brand strategy, the last six leading accounts at a network agency, where she spent a great deal of time watching good positioning get negotiated into wallpaper.

She is the one who will ask why three times in the first hour, and the one who writes the sentence you end up repeating for years without remembering where it came from.

Partner — Design

Joseph draws. Fifteen years across identity and product design, most recently building the design system behind a health platform used by two million people, which taught him more about maintenance than any identity project ever had.

He is unusually interested in what happens to a design after handover — whether the team can extend it, and whether it still holds together two years on.

A Discovery Session is ninety minutes with both founders. We work through what you’re actually trying to build, and you leave with a written point of view you can use whether or not we work together.

  • A written point of view on your positioning
  • The two or three decisions that actually matter
  • An honest read on whether we are the right studio
